Dr. Johnston is the founder of the Interventional Pain Institute in Baton Rouge, LA. He is also the founder of the Spine and Migraine Institute in Metaire, LA. Dr. Johnston provides diagnosis and pain management treatment to individuals with chronic pain from various spine pathologies. He employs a multimodal approach of therapies and disciplines to individualize pain management treatment plans. He also serves as the Medical Director of the Advanced Pain Institute Treatment Center, an ambulatory surgery center.


Prior to practicing pain management in the Baton Rouge area, Dr. Johnston held Anesthesiology positions in Massachusetts. He served as a Clinic Associate Anesthesiologist at Partners Healthcare, Brigham & Women's Hospital Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative and Pain Management. Concurrently, he was a Staff Anesthesiologist at Norwood Hospital in Norwood, Massachusetts.

Dr. Johnston is currently the Medical Director of the Advanced Pain Institute Treatment Center in Hammond, LA. It is an ambulatory surgery center and he supervises over 70 cases per week. He is also the elected Vice President of the Young Physicians Section of the Louisiana State Medical Society. He firmly believes it is important to maintain a presence throughout Louisiana in order to make patient care a top priority.

Dr. Johnston and his wife, Shelly, reside in Baton Rouge and enjoy spending time with their four kids, Abram, Faith, Ella Kate and Samantha.
